Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard Reunite for ‘this Christmas’ Performance on ‘the View’
Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken reunited on The View on December 12. Before talking to the co-hosts, the couple sang Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” in holiday jumpers.
Clay, 44, said that 2023 will mark 20 years since he and Ruben, 44, competed in American Idol’s second season. The women praised their festive performance. Idol turns 20. “Ruben and I are traversing the country for the 20th anniversary.” “We’re going to celebrate 20 years since we did Idol, the music we’ve made, and the friendships we’ve built.” Ruben’s Instagram tour dates.
Ruben and Clay are The View’s holiday tradition. TV Line reported they first performed “This Christmas” in 2016. They previewed “O Holy Night” in 2018 and 2019. 2021’s virtual apparition surprised a choir teacher.
Sunny Hostin asked Ruben and Clay to return to the reality show after some entertaining reminders that they won and finished second. Ruben promised to return to the show.
Clay confirmed that they will celebrate the anniversary together later this season. We’re on American Idol’s finale. “Exactly 20 years from our conclusion,” he said. We’ll go! Many Ruben and Clay opportunities.”
The Idol runner-up, who ran for Congress in North Carolina, posted on Instagram about his friendship with Ruben. Knowing Ruben Studdard: “He is selfless, gracious, and committed,” he wrote. Rube, congrats. “Forever.”
Other competitors have returned to Idol recently. Former judge Paul Abdul sobbed in May’s reunion. I cried seeing my babies in the contestants. “Beautiful.”
