Early Life

Porter-Gaud School is in Charleston, South Carolina. Nesmith started going there when he was in the fifth grade. When he was in eighth grade, he was first called up to the varsity basketball team. High School Career

  • Nesmith led Porter-Gaud to two more Class 3A state championships in his last two years at the school. It was as a senior that he averaged 21 points, 4.75 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, and he was named South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year because of his success in both basketball and school.
  • He was a three-time SCISA Class 3A player of the year when he left high school. During high school, Nesmith was a four-star recruit.
  • He was the 64th best player in the country, was the 12th best shooting guard in the country, and was the best player in South Carolina, as well as the best player in the country. He would end up signing with Vanderbilt on September 19, 2017.

College Career

  1. Nesmith played a big role for Vanderbilt when Darius Garland was out for the season and Simisola Shittu didn’t do well. Many times, he started. He scored 11 points per game in conference play, which was the most points they had all season.
  2. When Nesmith played his first two games, he was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week on February 18, 2019, after that. At Florida, he scored a season-high 26 points. At Auburn, he had 24 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.

  • He was chosen by the Boston Celtics with the 14th pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA draught. November 24, 2020, the Boston Celtics signed Nesmith to a four-year, $16.5 million rookie deal. The Celtics have options for the third and fourth years of the deal.
  • It was hard for Nesmith to get into the starting lineup for the first few months of the season because his teammate, Payton Pritchard, was taking a lot of minutes from Kemba Walker, who was injured.
