Alan Komissaroff died on Friday. This was two weeks after he had a heart attack. He was the top vice president of news and politics at Fox News Media. He was 47.

A GoFundMe page set up to help Rachael and their two kids say that Alan told his wife Rachael on January 8 that he wasn’t feeling well while he was working out at home.

“She called 911, and his heart stopped while paramedics were taking him to the hospital. He slipped into a coma, and never regained consciousness,” the campaign added.

“Alan was the family’s rock. He spent decades as a TV producer in New York, he loved his work, but he loved his wife and kids so much more.”

It stated that Rachael is a teacher in New York City, and “Alan’s overwhelming desire was for both his kids to have a chance to go to college. We want to make sure Alan’s dream lives on, even now that he’s gone.”

Alan has been married to Rachael, the girl he fell in love with in high school, for more than 20 years. Ben, 17, and Olivia, 13, are their children. As of Friday night, GoFundMe had raised more than $50,000, which was more than half of the goal of $250,000.

“This is an extremely difficult day for all of us who worked closely with Alan, and we are completely heartbroken,” FOX News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and FOX News Media President Jay Wallace said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

A press release sent to PEOPLE said that Alan was a trusted veteran who was there when the news channel started up in 1996. He was proud to say that he was born and raised in Brooklyn. At the time, he had just finished college.

Before becoming Senior Vice President of News & Politics, he worked as a writer, producer, and showrunner. In this role, he was in charge of all political coverage, from election coverage to day-to-day news operations.
