Celine Dion Cancels Tour Due to Incurable Stiff Person Syndrome
After saying on Thursday that she has Stiff Person Syndrome, Celine Dion canceled her upcoming European tour dates. The rare, untreatable neurological condition can make muscles very stiff and painfully spasm, making it hard to move.
“I’ve had health problems for a long time, and it’s been really hard for me to face these problems and talk about everything I’ve been through,” Dion, 54, said in an emotional Instagram video posted Thursday.
“I was recently told I have Stiff Person Syndrome, a very rare neurological disorder that affects only about one in a million people.” Even though we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know that it’s what’s causing all of my spasms.”
“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every part of my daily life. Sometimes they make it hard for me to walk, and I can’t sing the way I used to,” Dion said. I’m sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to go back to Europe in February.”
