Douglas Adams and Pamela Brown gave birth to Adams on December 24, 1992. He has three siblings: two sisters and one brother. Adams grew raised in East Palo Alto and attended Palo Alto High School in Palo Alto, California. As a senior two-way starter on the football team, he led the Vikings to a CIF state championship.

From 2011 through 2013, Adams attended California State University, Fresno, where he played football for the Fresno State Bulldogs.Adams redshirted his first season at Fresno State as a true freshman under then-head coach Pat Hill.

Adams’ hard effort paid dividends early in 2016, as he scored five touchdowns in his first six games. Adams was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week on October 26 after collecting 13 passes for 132 yards and two scores against the Chicago Bears in Week 7. He set a new season high with 156 yards rushing in a 47–25 loss against the Tennessee Titans.
On November 28, he rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a 27–13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Adams was the Packers’ second-leading receiver, with 997 yards on 75 catches and 12 touchdowns (second in the NFL only to teammate Jordy Nelson). Adams began the postseason with eight receptions, one for a touchdown.
Adams began the season with three catches for 47 yards in a 17–9 home victory over the Seattle Seahawks. In a 34–23 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, Adams had eight receptions for 99 yards and a 33-yard touchdown.
Adams was brought to the hospital in an ambulance in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears after being hit in the head by Chicago linebacker Danny Trevathan, who was suspended for two games (later reduced to one game). Adams scored a touchdown in each of the Packers’ first three games following Aaron Rodgers’ return from injury, averaging 6.7 receptions for 68 yards. Adams suffered a calf injury while en route to eight receptions for 81 yards in Week 4,but continued to play since teammates Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison were out with more serious injuries.

Adams caught 10 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 6 Monday Night Football victory over the San Francisco 49ers, including a 38-yard reception, a 16-yard game-tying touchdown, and two catches for 27 yards to set up the game-winning field goal.
Adams set a postseason team record with eight catches for 160 yards and two scores against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round.
