Derrick Lamar Henry Jr. is an American football running back  for the Tennessee Titans of the  National Football League . He was born on January 4, 1994. (NFL). He was dubbed “King Henry” because of his imposing rushing game and greater stature than the usual running back.

Henry was born and reared in Yulee, Florida, and with the Yulee Hornets, he set the national high school football record for career rushing yards. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he broke Herschel Walker’s single-season Southeastern Conference (SEC) rushing yards record during his junior season, won the 2015 Heisman Trophy, the Doak Walker Award, the Maxwell Award, and the Walter Camp Award, and was a key member of the 2015 Alabama Crimson Tide football team that won the 2016 College Football Playoff.

The Titans selected Henry in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. For the 2019 season, he topped the NFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns (tied with Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones). Henry would lead the league in rushing yards and touchdowns again in 2020, becoming only the eighth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a single season, and only the second Tennessee Titan to do it. Henry was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press in 2020.

Derrick Lamar Henry Jr. was born to 15-year-old Stacy Veal and 16-year-old Derrick Henry Sr. in  Yulee, Florida a Jacksonville suburb. Henry’s father, known as “Big D,” was missing for much of Henry’s upbringing because he had been jailed 20 times for various offences, including drug and prostitution-related offences, and as a result had been in and out of prison and struggled to find work. His mother went on to work as a hemodialysis technician.

High School Career

Henry was a three-sport star at Yulee High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. For the Yulee Hornets football team, he was a running back.

As a rookie in 2009, he rushed for 2,465 yards and 26 touchdowns. In 2010, he was voted to the first team All-Coast as running back after rushing for 2,788 yards and 38 touchdowns on 8.9 yards per carry. In 2011, he was named first-team All-Coast by the Florida Times-Union after rushing for 2,610 yards and 34 touchdowns as a junior.

As a senior, he set a Florida high school record with a 510-yard performance against Jacksonville Jackson (which he held until 2021) and averaged 9.2 yards per rush and 327.8 yards per game, concluding the season with a record-setting season.

His touchdown totals in his career rank fifth all-time. He averaged more than 250 yards a game during his four years at Yulee and never rushed for less than 100 yards in a contest. In the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, he carried for 53 yards, a score, and a two-point conversion for the East team.

From 2010 to 2011, Henry participated as a sprinter for Yulee in track and field. At the 2011 FHSAA 2A District 3 Championships, he ran a personal-best time of 11.11 seconds in the 100-meter dash, finishing seventh. He also served in the 4100 and 4400 squadrons.

Henry was ranked as the nation’s No. 1 athlete (player with no defined position) in 2013 by, who rated him as a five-star recruit. Henry committed to the University of Alabama on September 28, 2012, after originally committing to the University of Georgia. Many of the country’s top college football institutions had offered him scholarships, including USC, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida, and Clemson. Yulee eventually got rid of his phone number.

College Career

Henry attended and played college football for the University of Alabama from 2013 to 2015.He majored in communication. He graduated on May 4, 2018.That same day, he published an article in The Players’ Tribune thanking his late grandmother for the inspiration to continue pursuing his degree.

Professional Career

Coming out of Alabama, Henry was projected by the majority of analysts to be either drafted in the late first or second round. Scouts regarded his main assets to be his large frame, violent running, ability to break tackles with ease, speed, long strides, superior conditioning, and consistent play.

The main concerns were about the wear and tear his body took as a workhorse at Alabama, his slow acceleration, average foot quickness, below-average catching ability, narrow based running style, sluggish cutbacks, and running tall.

Personal Life

Henry is a Christian. Henry has said, “I pray all the time. I’m always thankful for all my blessings that God has given to me, to me and my family. My grandmother always told me, ‘Always keep God first. Always thank Him for everything in your life, good or bad.'”

In 2018, Henry fulfilled a promise to his grandmother Gladys and graduated from Alabama in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.He has a portrait tattoo of her on his chest. He has a dog named Nino.

In November 2019, Henry’s hometown of Yulee, Florida, celebrated him with a welcome sign in his honor. Fundraising for the sign came from local residents and businesses who wanted to recognize the accomplishments of the rising football star.

Henry has been dating Adrianna Rivas since 2016. On May 18, 2020, Rivas gave birth to their daughter, Valentina Allure Henry.

Henry is the founder of the Two All Foundation. The organization “exists to level the playing field for today’s youth so that their future success is not limited by the circumstances of their upbringing, background, disability, or influence.”
