“Drew’s death is a heartbreaking loss for CNN and our whole industry,” CNN CEO Chris Licht wrote to his staff. Drew, a well-known investigative journalist, was the perfect example of what this group was trying to do in every way.
He looked for the truth and held those in power responsible for it. He was tough, but also fair. He worked harder than anyone else. Licht also said, “He spent a lot of time reading documents and talking on the phone.”
He said that even though Griffin had cancer, he worked on a case until he died. “Even though he had cancer, he didn’t give up on reporting, which was so important to him. In fact, he was working on an investigation right up until he died,” the CEO said.

Griffin was a journalist for 30 years. He was an investigative reporter for CBS in Los Angeles until 2004. After that, he went to work for CNN. He talked about 9/11 and the famine in Somalia.

CNN workers were saddened by Griffin’s death. John Avlon, a political analyst, wrote on Twitter, “Just heard the sad news that Drew Griffin has died. He was a great investigative journalist, CNN’s most important beat, and a good man who left us too soon.
Michael Bass, the Executive Vice President of Programming at CNN, said, “He was fearless and creative at the same time. He knew how to push a story to its limits and tell it in a way that everyone could understand.”
“How often has he chased someone who didn’t want to be interviewed? How often has he gone against the rules? How many times has he made a big change? “It was a great honour to work with him and see how his work changed the world,” Bass said.
