Perry Kurtz, a stand-up comedian and former Americas Got Talent contender, passed away following a hit-and-run accident. He was seventy-three.

A man in his 70s was struck by a car driven by a teenager on Thursday, August 15, about 11:20 p.m. in Tarzana, California, when he was crossing the street at Ventura Boulevard and Corbin Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, which verified this information to Us Weekly.

The person was pronounced dead at the site upon the arrival of first responders.

According to a Los Angeles County Medical Examiner report that Us Weekly saw, Kurtz was named as the victim. His cause of death is still unknown and will not be known until an autopsy is completed.

Investigators claim that on Friday, August 16, an 18-year-old suspect struck and killed Kurtz. As a result, police said the suspect was taken into custody and booked.

Kurtz was seen two days prior to the accident at Pat’s Cocktails Lounge, which is close to Los Angeles, where he got up on stage and sang karaoke.

In a video that was shared on his Facebook page, he remarked, “I just get up.” “I’m attempting to enjoy myself.”

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kurtz began his professional career doing stand-up shows across the nation in the early 1970s. He regularly performed as the main attraction at the renowned New York City nightclub Dangerfield’s in the 1980s; the venue was named for the comic great Rodney Dangerfield.

Kurtz performed a comedy routine in front of judges Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Howard Stern during season 8 of America’s Got Talent. He introduced himself as a “former male stripper” and proceeded to perform.

In the end, Kurtz got three “nos” and didn’t go forward from the 2013 auditions.

On his YouTube page, Kurtz said, “Howard had prewritten mean jokes, to which I heckled him back and got laughs from the crowd.” “They gave me no microphone stand, weird music, and when I started to sing, they turned off my microphone for two thirds of the audience.

Then they told them to get up and boo me.” Welcome to the world of reality television.

Kurtz, however, got the chance to showcase his best “bar talent” when he appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden following the performance. Following his 2018 visit, he referred to late-night host James Corden as “the nicest guy EVER.”

Kurtz kept performing publicly and at different comedy clubs in and around Southern California right up to his passing. On social media, he posted numerous highlights from his performances.
