Gracie Abrams Shares Her Desire for ‘Privacy’ Following Speculation About Paul Mescal
Gracie Abrams is discussing her relationship status with Paul Mescal in a somewhat direct manner.
Rumors of a romance were stoked after Abrams, 24, and Mescal, 28, were seen together at London’s Brat restaurant last month.
Abrams told The Sunday Times in a profile released on Sunday, August 11, “It’s all a bit unsettling. Like anyone else, you just wish for some privacy in your life. That’s the honest truth.”
Although Abrams did not elaborate on their relationship, she has been in the public eye since she was a little child. Despite being the daughter of well-known director-producers J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath, the singer claims in an interview with the Times that her upbringing was “significantly less glamorous.”
“My parents would leave for work and return home.” Gracie told the British publication, “They used to ask [my two siblings and I] about school, friends, and big ideas that kids have—all of the typical mundane, magical, boring s–t.”
“I just had no interest in going down that path, you know? I was so uninterested in being associated with anything that my dad was doing for work growing up, not because I don’t love him.”
Even though Gracie never intended to perform live, she has since achieved fame as a singer-songwriter.
“I’ve never desired to be an entertainer. Gracie stated, “I just wanted to write,” adding that the publication of her most recent album, The Secret of Us, had elevated her career to new heights. Sometimes I think traveling there feels less discrete. I’m merely making a small adjustment in that role.
Still, what can you do? she asked. Having people recognize what I love to accomplish so much is truly a blessing.
Gracie was selected as the opening act for Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour months before The Secret of Us was released.
“I didn’t think I would be involved in that role at all,” Gracie stated. “It seemed like we had known each other before when I first met her, and I’m sure that had something to do with the parasocial connection phenomenon. Her voice has been in my headphones all my life as I’ve grown up.
Later, Gracie had the opportunity to collaborate with 34-year-old Swift on the song “Us” from The Secret of Us. During Swift’s June London show, the duo gave their debut live performance of the song.
Swift said, “When I tell you I just love this girl so much,” throughout the performance. Writing with someone makes you see everything—all the artistry and the true nature of the person—and when you write with her, you can tell that she’s a badass. That, like, is a writer.
