After her late husband, Phil Donahue, passed away at the age of 88, Marlo Thomas paid tribute to him.
“Hey, pals. With a nostalgic picture of herself and Donahue, Thomas, 86, posted on Instagram on Monday, August 19. “I’m sure by now you’ve heard the very sad news that I lost my sweetheart last night,” she wrote.
I’m sure you realize, though, that I need to take care of myself and all of the others who loved and cared for Phil for a while before I leave this page.
Thomas went on to say that she didn’t want to end the call before expressing her gratitude to everyone for the “beautiful messages of love and support” she had already received. She expressed her gratitude to her admirers for allowing her and 44-year-married Donahue into their life throughout the years.
“I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing, and as a man who spent his career loving his audiences, Phil got such a kick out of our cozy little community here,” she said.

In addition, Thomas had posted one of her “favorite photos” of Donahue and her on a trip to Europe. In it, the couple was posing on a scooter and grinning for the camera.
According to a statement sent by his family, the Phil Donahue Show host “passed away peacefully following a long illness” earlier that day. “His sister, his children, his grandchildren, and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie,” were with Thomas by his side.
