Mitch Richmond was selected by the Golden State Warriors the 5th overall in the 1988 NBA draft where he averaged 20 points per game. He averaged 22 points per game for the Warriors and won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in the 1988–89 season. He spent three years with the Golden State Warriors.
He was traded to the Sacramento Kings during the 1991–92 season in exchange for the rights to Billy Owens. Richmond came out as the team’s leading scorer in each of his 7 seasons. In 1995, He won MVP honors at the All-Star Game at Phoenix. Richmond was selected for the United States Olympic team which was “Dream Team III”, He won a gold medal in Atlanta.
