School Career

Noel was born outside of Boston in Malden, Massachusetts, to Haitian immigrant parents. He attended Everett High School for his first two years of high school before transferring to Harvard University. After his sophomore year, he went on to Tilton School in Tilton, New Hampshire, where he graduated in 2017.
In the beginning, Noel was considered a member of the class of 2013, but he was reclassified to the 2012 college recruiting class. As a senior, Noel posted averages of 12.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks per game.
ESPN and Scout.com ranked him as the best player in the class of 2012, and SLAM ranked him as the second-best player. Noel was selected to represent the United States at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit and the 2012 Jordan Brand Classic in Las Vegas.
In addition to his high school career, Noel was a member of the same AAU basketball team as future Sixers teammate Michael Carter-Williams, which he later joined.

College Career

Noel decided to attend the University of Kentucky in April 2012 after considering several elite college basketball programs. He will be a member of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball team. On national television, he demonstrated his verbal commitment by revealing the UK logo, which had been shaved into the back of his head.
On November 16, 2012, he tallied 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block, and 4 steals in his third game against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. As part of the draughting process, he was invited to join the “green room,” which consisted of the projected top 10 to 15 collegiate basketball players at the time. He ended up being selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the sixth overall pick. Because of his torn left ACL, there were some concerns around the league, which may have caused him to fall further down the draught board.
The trade that sent Noel to the Philadelphia 76ers was completed on July 12, 2013. On September 24, 2013, he signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
