On Strictly Come Dancing, Helen Skelton Addresses Her Divorce for the First Time
Helen Skelton hinted at a divorce on the latest episode of Strictly Come Dancing. The Countryfile host talked about why she agreed to take part in the BBC dancing competition during the show, which aired on Friday, December 2, instead of Saturday.
“I did Strictly this year because sometimes you just have to take advantage of a chance and an opportunity to make yourself happy,” she said.
Skelton agreed to go on the show months after saying that her ex-husband, Richie Myler, had “abandoned the family home” only four months after they had their third child.
She wrote on Instagram in April, “Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer together.” He has left the house where he grew up. ” We’ll do our best to co-parent our little children.”
Skelton, who got married to Myler in 2013, added two broken heart emojis to the post.
The former host of Blue Peter hasn’t talked about the breakup on the show since it started in September, but she felt awkward when her business partner brought it up in an early episode.
In the most recent episode, Skelton said that the show has helped her “remember who I am and what I’m about” after a hard year.
“Strictly has already given me so much,” she said. “I have a lot to be thankful for and I know what I can offer, and the best thing for me is that this dance is all about that.”
With 39 points for their Couple’s Choice dance to “Mein Herr” from Cabaret, Skelton, Márquez, and Will Mellor came in the first place.
She said before that she wasn’t sure if Strictly was a good fit for her until her best friend talked to her about it. Because the BBC is covering the Qatar World Cup, the Strictly Come Dancing results show will air at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday.
