Ronda Rousey Issues Apology for Posting Video Promoting Sandy Hook Conspiracy Theory
Ronda Rousey, the former star of the UFC and WWE, has expressed regret for posting a conspiracy video on the Sandy Hook tragedy.
“Over the past 11 years, I have revised this apology countless times. How many times have I told myself that it wasn’t the appropriate time or that giving it a try would only make things worse?” Rousey, 37, wrote in response to a post she made in January 2013 in a statement released early on Friday, August 23, via X.
However, I made the single worst choice of my life eleven years ago. She went on, “I watched a conspiracy film about Sandy Hook and shared it on Twitter. It’s about the Sandy Hook, Connecticut, elementary school tragedy in December 2012, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, 20 of them were children.
“Even though I didn’t think it was true, I was so terrified by it that I tried to find some other kind of fiction to hold on to. The damage was done, but I soon realized my error and removed it,” Rousey said, adding that her January 2013 social media post “slipped under the media’s radar.”
In her recently released biography, Our Fight, Rousey said that she attempted to apologize but that her publisher forbade her from doing so.
“Therefore, I persuaded myself that expressing regret would only cause the hurt to resurface out of my self-serving desire to feel better,” she wrote.
Rousey went on, “But to be honest, I deserve to be hated, labeled, detested, resented, and worse for it.” “I ought to have been canceled because I would have earned it, and I deserve to miss out on every chance. I still carry out.
Rousey said, “I apologize that this was 11 years too late, but from the bottom of my heart and soul, I am so so sorry for the hurt I caused to those affected by the Sandy Hook massacre.”
“Words cannot express how deeply repentant and ashamed I am of myself for contributing to it, and I can’t even begin to understand the anguish you’ve endured. I will always regret it till the day I die, and I have regretted it every day of my life since.
Rousey issued her apologies following an intense barrage of questions over her historic tweet during a recent Reddit AMA with the former WWE women’s champion on the pro wrestling subreddit r/SquaredCircle.
Rousey revealed in July that she and her husband Travis Browne are expecting their second child. The pair has a 2-year-old daughter named La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō.
