“SNL”: Steve Martin and Martin Short Reboot “Father of the Bride” With Kieran Culkin

On “Saturday Night Live,” Martin Short as Ebenezer Scrooge and Steve Martin as the Ghost of Christmas Present blinded orphans and caused chaos on Christmas morning.

Scrooge was so excited about Christmas that he was dancing around his room. He opened the windows and gave a boy (Sarah Sherman) a coin to buy a goose for the holiday.

Scrooge guessed wrong when he threw the coin, and it hit Sherman in the eye. When another coin blinded the other eye, the villagers were horrified and said that Scrooge was “blinding orphans.”

Martin, the ghost, tried to show Scrooge how to throw a coin correctly, but instead, he blinded another villager. Since Martin is a ghost, Scrooge was blamed, even though it was Martin who did it. Tiny Tim was calling up to Scrooge when he was hit by a loose coin, which cut his cane as he fell into a sewer.

In another holiday sketch, Short played a grumpy elf named Sprinkles who yelled at Martin’s Santa Claus for giving in too easily to kids’ requests. When someone asked for Taylor Swift tickets, Short yelled, “Get a job!”

In a parody of “Father of the Bride” that happened later in the show, “Father of the Bride 8,” daughter Annie got engaged for the eighth time at the age of 52. Short played wedding planner Franck again, and Gomez and Kieran Culkin had cameos while a narrator said, “We bet you don’t remember Kieran Culkin.”
