Supreme Court Prevents Biden Administration From Terminating Title 42 Immigration Expulsions
The Supreme Court said that the government couldn’t stop people from leaving the country because it was bad for public health. Since the COVID-19 epidemic began, this programme has been running.
Neil Gorsuch, an associate justice, says that the court’s decision on the states’ emergency request was made too quickly. The judges will hear arguments about the programme the following year. Arguments will be heard in February.
A spokesman said that Title 42 is an effort to improve public health and not a way to stop illegal immigration. In April, the Biden administration said that the Title 42 policy would be changed over time.
It has locked up tens of thousands of people looking for refuge in Mexican border towns. A federal judge ruled in November that the way the programme was made broke the law.
