Tiktok Influencer Brooke Schofield Issues an Emotional Apology for Past Racist Tweets
TikTok celebrity Brooke Schofield is currently engulfed in a storm of controversy following the reemergence of previous racist tweets she wrote, which prompted a heartfelt apology.
The influencer was clearly upset as she accepted full responsibility for her previous mistakes, which have sparked a new round of criticism, in an almost four-minute video that she shared on social media.
Tweets Posts by Brooke Between 2012 and 2015 Went Viral
The 27-year-old social media celebrity, who has over 2 million TikTok followers, has become well-known online for her lively personality and captivating content. In addition, she is well-known for co-hosting the podcast Canceled with Tana Mongeau, in which she talks about pop culture and celebrity scandals.
Schofield has a strong internet following, but her latest apology serves as a sobering reminder of how rapidly public opinion may change.
When Brooke’s fans found and emphasized her older tweets from 2012 to 2015, the dispute got started. She defended George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case among other ugly remarks in these tweets, along with racially insensitive remarks about “ratchet hair” and the use of racial slurs.
Supporters weren’t afraid to voice their displeasure, labeling the posts as “disappointing” and “irritating.”
A Heartfelt Apology Was Shared By Brooke For Her Fans
In a tearful video, Schofield admitted, “You have probably seen the tweets that have been circulating. They are real; I said those things.”
She continued, “I want to acknowledge that I feel the same way about them as you do. I find them disturbing, wrong, horrible, and disgusting.” Throughout her emotional response, she struggled to maintain her composure, frequently sniffing and tearing up during her apology.
Schofield’s attempt to address her past comes after a wave of comments from followers criticizing her for not practicing the accountability she advocates.
One fan commented, “People are allowed to be hurt by her words, especially those targeted. It’s not a non-POC’s place to forgive her and defend her ‘growth.’ People can be hurt,” to which Schofield responded with a somber acknowledgment of the hurt caused.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Schofield shared that she was adopted by her grandparents at age 10, and their views significantly impacted her early perspectives. She confessed that the offensive tweets were posted when she was 18, and it wasn’t until after college that her outlook began to evolve.
“I disagree with certain individuals in my life, even though I may have looked up to them for a long time,” the woman remarked. “I sincerely apologize to anyone who has been harmed by the tweets; it is evident that they are extremely hurtful.”
Schofield expressed regret in the apologetic video for not addressing the matter sooner. “I thought that by drawing more attention to it, I would be harming more people because I was receiving these messages from individuals who had been harmed by it. That was not the proper frame of mind. “I ought to have spoken up sooner,” she acknowledged.
Brooke’s job is on the line as she deals with the consequences of her previous remarks. It remains to be seen if her earnest apologies and attempts to rectify her previous transgressions will suffice to repair her reputation and reestablish her brand.
