In her Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, Meghan Markle is honest about her split from her father, Thomas Markle. The father-daughter relationship has been in the news for years, and now the Duchess of Sussex is letting the cat out of the bag about what went wrong between them and what caused their family to break up.

Meghan smiled and said, “Yes,” when asked if she had been close to her father for most of her life. “I mean, you know, it’s family. So it’s never easy, and it’s never just right. But, of course, I talked to my dad several times a week and…”

Even though they were close friends, the end of their relationship has been widely reported on in recent years. When asked why “things” between the two “went wrong,” Meghan said, “When the media got involved.”

Then, a clip from an earlier interview with Thomas started playing, and his public comments about his daughter were shown on the screen.

When Meghan thought back to what happened after her May 2018 wedding, she said, “After the wedding, my dad started doing interviews, mostly about me.” “It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt.”

“And everyone in the world is watching this drama play out,” Meghan said. “Then he started to say bad things about the royal family. The royal family, on the other hand, was made to look very bad.” Thomas said that the royal family was like a “secretive Scientology cult” in a controversial interview.

“It was a problem that needed to be fixed, and they wanted me to stop it,” said the mother of two, who has been at odds with her father since he worked with the paparazzi to take a series of staged photos before his daughter’s royal wedding in 2018.

Meghan said that she told Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, what was going on in the news by calling her and asking, “What do you want me to do?”

“But the Queen and the Prince of Wales suggested that I write a letter to my father,” she said, referring to the letter that got out. “I went to a lot of trouble to get that letter to my father without him knowing. I can’t send this letter to Tom Markle by mail with the return address of Kensington Palace and expect it to get there.”

Meghan said that her plan was to send the letter to her business manager in Los Angeles, where she got a signature proving it was delivered. However, the signature wasn’t her father’s; it just said “Thomas.”

The letter was right away on the front page of every newspaper and news website. She said that the stories that came out about the letter were “horrifying.”
